Photos from the past two days!

January 17, 2019..2:22 Luxor, Egypt

Dear Friends and Family,

I’ve written two posts that are lost somewhere in Internet Land. I will try to reconstruct the information in this post.

Our three days in Cairo was really exciting. Four of the members of our group arrived from JFK at 9:00 PM on our Day 2 of our trip. Monday was exciting as you’ve seen from the photos of Giza. I will now include the information written on Monday evening that did not make it to the Blog:

“Finally in Egypt: January 15, 2019

Dear Friends and Family,

In have decided that’s sleep is overrated! Since my last day in Manhattan (Sunday) I have had a total of 6 hours of sleep which was all last night after a 13 hour flight to Cairo. We were fed three big meals, amenities of pillow, blanket, tooth brush tooth paste, ear plugs, and an eye mask. Monday was more than half gone when I arrived at my hotel with a super view of the Pyramids of Giza.

I woke up this morning at sunrise to the Pyramids out side my bedroom balcony.

While it appears we are just across the street, it took about 35 minutes to arrive at the site. Traffic which I will discuss later and tight security checkpoints. We have had to go through security checks every time we enter a site or even enter our hotel

We have our own police escort and a police security office that is with us at each site.

We were at the Pyramids, Sphinx and Solar Boat of Khufu. This boat was discovered buried beside the Great Pyramid of Khufu in 1224 pieces that fit together into this boat . It was assembled in 1968 by specialists from 5 different countries. It is still in its original site beside the pyramid . The scientists have discovered three other boats underground on the other three sides that will be explored at some future date.

We attended a lecture by a professor in Egyptology then went to dinner at 8:30.

More later…Ellen”

  1. Wow!! I am impressed by your stamina. Jet lag is a killer for me. So glad you’re able to keep going on so little sleep. Your pictures have been great. Enjoying them immensely.
