Manhattan Adventures Part 3 May 21, 2019l

With the approval of Linda Dillon Perkins (co-adventurer)

May 21, 2019. 7:00 AM ASU Loft gathering room,

Dear Family and Friends,

Our sixth day in Manhattan and my third journal entry.

Linda and I leave for JFK at noon today for a 5:30 flight to Tel Aviv, Israel. Why are we leaving so early…well our experience arriving with our prepaid shuttle was unusually long and not up to the usual NYC standards. Therefore we moved our time of pickup to noon.

Our time in the CITY has been fantastic! Weather has been typical for NYC…Cool when we arrived then hot and humid starting yesterday, making clothing choices difficult. In NY when it get a little warmer outside they crank up the AC in the subways, buses and buildings.

We’ve been able to visit most of our choices including museums, window shopping and plays. The last two plays (non-musical) made you think deeply and I am still trying to fully understand all that I saw and heard in “Ferryman”. A script to read would be helpful…(See playbill and set below)

Our last two full days, Sunday and Monday, were crammed full of adventures. To get to Church at Manhattan Church of Christ, I usually take the M1, M2 or M3 from Park Avenue to 90th Street and Madison (only about 30 steps from the front door). But when we saw two buses come to 23rd Street and turn we had to change course. It seems that the lower part of Madison was closed for the day for a street fair. CHANGE OF PLANS!

A fast subway trip to Lexington and 96th so a brisk walk to church. Worth the extra steps as it was a wonderful service.

After church a fast run through the METROPOLITAN museum to photograph areas we saw on Saturday but did not find on our photos then lunch at the Cafe in the American Wing. This is where Ellen realized that seeing 4 plays in one visit is a problem. Our play was at 3:00 so we planned to arrive at 2:30 it was now 1:20. I had reminded Linda to not forget her ticket as I put my ticket in my purse at the Loft…at lunch I was checking the address of the Helen Hays Theater and found that I had picked up the wrong ticket…After a discussion we decided instead of going back to find my ticked I would use my age, tears if necessary, begging to get into the theater.

NOT NECESSARY!

The man at the ticket booth recognized me from Friday when we bought our tickets and was able to quickly issue me another ticket. I love New York and New Yorkers! There is a good possibility that we saw the TONY AWARD winner! (What the Constitution Means to Me)

Monday was to be a day of rest, and packing…Instead we went to two museums, Wall Street, 9-11 Memorial and surrounding area including Trinity Church and Cemetery.

We’ve been able to cram a lot into 5 days but the adventure is just beginning. Look for reports from Israel in a couple of days.

Have Passport will travel!

Ellen and Linda

We are on our way!
