October 30, 2019
Dear Friends and Family,
Last night I decided to look back on 2019 travels. With the help of Google, I counted the number of miles of out of Boone, mostly international, travel for the year. I included my next trip on November 2, to Ireland and came up with a total of over 40,000 miles. To my friends and family, I thank you for taking these journeys with me!
So Friday, I head to Charlotte again for the long awaited trip to Ireland with Scythian. Scythian is an Celtic band and singing group from Virginia (just outside of DC) that I have enjoyed

for many years as they come yearly to Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC.

Scythian is a band of classically trained musicians who have caught the spirit of Celtic music along with the gypsy spirit of their Ukrainian family ties to create a truly unique sound and excitement. I could listen to them all day…and “all night”! This past February, my daughter, Lori and her husband, Eric, went with Scythian on their yearly Ireland Castle Tour. On returning they said, “Mom you need to go on this trip!” Fortunately for me Scythian planned a second tour for 2019 in November. Lori and Eric also found a wonderful roommate for me in Donna McNeil of Wilkesboro, the mother of two new Scythian friends from the February tour.
So I am packed, have the Thursday night Halloween ASU football, and leave at lunchtime on Friday for Charlotte. Donna and I leave from Charlotte-Douglas Airport on Saturday morning for Boston, then arrive Sunday in Dublin at 4:55 am to begin our Irish Journey!
Thanks for taking this trip with us!
Ellen
