Tyler, Ellie, and Anna,
It’s Sunday morning in Germany. Grandma began the day with a leisure breakfast and a quick trip “up-top” to catch God’s paintbrush at work in the sunrise! A beautiful way to start the week!

After breakfast we walked into the town of Speyer, Germany. About 100 people from the ship went on this trip and we were almost the only people up that early in town.

Since it was Sunday, only the coffee shops and gelato shops were open. A few people were getting ready to go to church so we only got a few minutes to see inside.

The cathedral of Speyer is very old. It was built 1030 to 1061 by German emperors. But the town is noted more for the stand protesting the excommunication of Martin Luther by the Diet of Worms by 6 princes and 14 city representatives. This religious revolution was given the name “ Protestantism”. The Lutheran Church there had many more members attending than the Cathedral.

A bus ride back to the ship which had traveled to Worms, Germany. Then a beautiful cruise to Rudesheim. This small town was alive with families, music and lots of local color. The church there was very old but parts were destroyed in 1944. The old in front was kept and the restored church used different stones.

Love, Grandma/ Ellen
