Wednesday in Berlin part 2

June 15, 2023. Happy 11th birthday Ellie!

Still at the museum. There was so much to see. German archeologists have been busy over the last few centuries working all over the region of Turkey, Syria, Iran, and Iraq. Many of artifacts in this museum were during the Ottoman Empire.

Sights where German archeologist were working in the 19th and 20th centuries.

An artist recently used light and color to help visitors see the beauty of the relief work from past centuries . I will try to include some with this post.

Without light
With light and color

From the 8th Century BC, Hadad, the weather god originally had crystals for eyes. The light on the statue gives the viewer what it would have looked like seeing it in the desert. Light and color artist is Liam Gillick.

Hadad, the Weather god
Cast of Hammurapi’s code. 18th century BC original is in France at the Louvre.
Greek and Roman rooms
Art from Egypt, India, Iraq and Iran on the second floor.

A full day of art and history. Thanks for reading
