Amtrak Crescent # 20 (7:29…on time so so far)

Dear Friends and family,

Greece with Milligan: 12 years later

Let the Journey Begin!

The adventure for Ellen starts after church in Boone on Mother’s Day with a leisure Sunday afternoon drive to my friend Susan Opt’s house in Winston Salem, an evening’ walk around her neighborhood, a good night’s rest then on to Greensboro Amtrak Station ( May 13) for the first official leg of my adventure outside of NC.

This trip will include almost all modes of transportation. Cars…trains…subway…planes…bus or van…and cruise ship. The only thing missing will be Ellen on a Camel!

You may ask why the train for my first leg of this trip. #1. I love train travel. #2. It is a relaxing and provides me a desk (club car), coffee and beautiful sights outside the windows.

#3. When I can reach my destination at Penn Station in NYC I have in multiple ways to get around the city.

#4. This will give me time before and after the trip to write on this blog.

However, time on the train meant that I got to meet some of my neighbors from Philadelphia in Baltimore. Thanks to Michael and Gwen and Linda for helping to make our wait so much fun.

The train trip to New York was an eventful trip and that there was an accident with our diesel engine in DC that made us two hours late into Manhattan and Penn Station.

Arriving by way of the E-train (subway) to the monorail Airtrain was after 13 hours and in the dark.

Arrived at the hotel to meet up with Lori and Eric who came in from Atlanta. I am looking forward to a good night rest to be ready to fly to Zurich tomorrow afternoon. Planning to have breakfast with Marsha McDaniel Milligan class of 76 my roommate. More later.
