Second Day in Budapest

Sunday, June 26th, was the first full day on our cruise.  We took motor coaches from dock-side to around Budapest or Buda and Pest to get a overview of this large capitol city. Our bus tour ended at St. Mathias Church and Fisherman’s Bastion. There are sections of Budapest that show signs of Communist occupation and we still heard about sections of the town destroyed by bombs in WWII.

Since we had decided to go to the Thermal Baths in the afternoon, this was our only view of the city beyond the river.  I was so glad that we were able to take the evening cruise up to the edge of town the night before.

We were encouraged by friends to use the mineral waters of the one of over 100 natural thermal springs in Budapest. Unfortunately instead one of the small bath houses, our program took us to the largest and most crowded of the “spa’s”.  In order to insure added attendance, the spa had added an 7 x 12 foot TV screen to the end of the warm mineral rich outdoor thermal pool so sports fans could watch the “football” or soccer matches.  To say it was crowded and noisy would be an understatement.

Peggy and I did use the services to get a massage before finding the warm and cold thermal pools.  The warm outdoor pool is even used by Hungrians in the winter.

Mealtime on ship gives us opportunities to meet our fellow travelers. Last night we stayed and talked until the restaurant staff was ready to go to bed.

I am writing this at 6:30 am on Monday.  I will need to submit photos either from this computer or from my iPhone.  Be patient for compete blogs.
