Manhattan Adventures with Linda May 15-21, 2019 Part 1

May 18, 2019. 8:00 am

Dear Family and Friends,

I’m three days into my next adventure and this is the first time I’ve had to do more that post a sentence or two on Facebook. As many of you know this is my second major trip in 2019. From the photograph above, you can meet again my friend from my Egyptian Adventure, Audrey Fields (on the left) and my college alumni friend, Linda Perkins who is my co-conspirator for this new adventure in Israel.

I love any excuse to visit Manhattan, so I arrived by plane on a two hour flight from Charlotte. Linda and I are staying at the Appalachian Loft in Midtown Manhattan for 6 days before our flight to Israel. Our goal is to get in as many plays and museums as possible in the time available.

Therefore we signed up before arriving for plays on Wednesday evening “Beetlejusice” and “Tootsie, the Musical” for Thursday evening. Thanks to Keith Martin (ASU theater professor) we were strongly encouraged to sign up for two non-musical Tony nominated plays…therefore tonight we will see “Ferryman” and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 “What the Constitution Means to Me” both nominated for Best Play while “Beetlejuice” and “Tootsie” for Best Musical. You can bet I’ll be watching the awards on June 9th from Arkansas (My next adventure).

Thursday morning I helped Linda get acquainted with our ASU Loft neighborhood. A trip to see the WPA murals at the 23rd Street Post Office, a walk through Housing Works, and a visit to the City Opera Thrift Store (see photo in lower right corner above). Linda found four wonderful lamps, three chairs, rice dishes, and several outfits (my daughters would love this!) that we only admired, photographed and said if only we could get this home… This is what I say every time I shop here. If I had to replace my furniture and accessories…I would bring a van to NYC and leave with $$ to spare from these two shops!

It is now time to close so we can hit the town on our next adventure…day two of museums. Yesterday was the MET Cloisters at West 190th Street and JP Morgan Library and Museum at East 34th Street. More about that in PART 2 of our Manhattan Adventure.

Ellen with the approval of Linda!
