Dear Friends and family,
How does one see the beauty and majesty of a culture halfway around the world? Why you visit a famous museum or two and one of the best cities outside of Egypt to see and be able to read information on Ancient Egypt is New York City.
I’ve been coming to NYC for ASU for over 16 years. The Metropolitan Museum of Art membership along with my NYC Library card are two of the three best presents I’ve given myself (the third is my senior discount Metro card) and they all three have been used this trip! The Metropolitan has been involved with archeologial exploration in Egypt for over 100 years. Funding Egyptologists and their crews, making exceptional discoveries sharing with the Cairo Museum while bringing back some items that are presently on display on 5th Avenue. Others have come through donations from Egypt, especially the Temple of Dendur, for America’s help with the High Dam at Aswan.
In New York I was able to spend two days about a total of 6 hours at the Metropolitan and then took the subway to Brooklyn to see their collection on Thursday. Below you will see some of the examples from each museum.
Leaving the museum yesterday, I realized that in Egypt I will not be able to spend as much time as I want with looking at all there is to see. I took over 500 photographs in two days to study on my flight. I am so excited to know that in just a a few hours, I’ll be looking the history of Egypt in person. I know that I won’t be disappointed.
Photos to follow: probably on a different blog page.
More tomorrow..

Hi Ellen, I learned of your blog while looking at reviews from Road Scholar. I am thinking of going to Egypt next spring. I really have enjoyed your blog! Thanks for all the insight.

Glad you enjoyed the blog. You will love Egypt. For me it was wonderful to see sights that Abraham, Joseph and Moses were able to see and that they had not been destroyed only covered with sand.
